Pressed Powder: how to get a summery tan in the middle of spring!

It might not be summer yet, but there's no reason you can't get ahead of the game and use your pressed powder make-up to create a sunkissed glow. Here's how to use and apply your pressed powder for a natural-looking summery tan!

Don't let the seasons dictate your complexion. Just because it's not "officially" summer, doesn't mean you can't pull off a gorgeous tan. The key: keep it natural. Pressed powder is a must-have for a radiant glow that says August, even if it's only April.

Dos and don'ts for a natural-looking glow

DO

Start light, stay light. Even in the summer, unless you've spent a month in North-Western Australia, your tan is likely to be sunkissed golden, not baked orange.

DONT

Use the same brush for your bronzer, blush and setting pressed powder, not only to avoid color mix-ups, but because different brush shapes do different jobs. The brush in the Belle De Teint bronzing powder is soft, smooth and angled to give you a truly natural-looking finish.

DO

Apply your pressed powder over a long-lasting light foundation such as Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation, which will give you the perfect base over which you can add your tan!

DONT

Cover the whole face with your pressed powder bronzer. The trick with applying bronzer is to emphasize where the light would typically hit your face: usually the forehead and cheeks. An all-over dusting is an unnatural make-up giveaway.

4 simple steps when applying bronzer

Step 1

You don't need to pile the product onto the brush. Sweep it once over your pressed powder in a back-and-forth movement, then tap the brush lightly against the side of the compact to remove excess powder.

Step 2

Sweep your bronzer across the cheek bone in an outwards direction. Turn your brush to the other side and repeat on the opposite cheek.

Step 3

Re-apply your pressed powder to the brush as before, then sweep across your forehead in the most natural-feeling direction. For right-handers, for example, this is usually from left to right.

Step 4

Check the coverage under natural lighting then repeat steps 1-4 if necessary. That's all there is to it!

Add a fresh, rosy glow to your tan

There's nothing that says you can't use your bronzer alongside a blush to give energy to your look. Once you've applied your bronzer, take a pressed powder blush like Blush Subtil and swirl the powder lightly over the apples of your cheeks. Once should be enough for a discreet pink glow.

Try out a new trend: cushion make-up!

Chances are, you've already heard about cushion foundation, one of the biggest beauty trends of the year. But did you know that blush can also use this revolutionary technology? Lancôme's CushionBlushSubtil uses a sponge-like cushion and silky-soft pad to provide a natural-looking, buildable blush effect. Apply in dabbing motions and let dry for a few seconds before applying the bronzer.

You ask, we answer

Is pressed powder long-lasting?

Yes! In fact, pressed powder actually helps the rest of your make-up stay in place. Plus, the handy compact size and luxury casing of the Belle De Teint means you can slip in into your purse for make-up touch-ups throughout the day.

Can pressed powder be used on its own?

It certainly can. For days when you're in a rush, a pressed powder bronzer can give your skin a healthy-looking boost without weighing it down. We even like to sometimes use our Belle de Teint as a light eyeshadow – it's a multi-purpose tool (@Local Markets: please check w/ legal/lab team)

What make-up looks good over a summery tan?

Whether it's natural or not, the golden hues of a tan look great with a subtly glossy lip. We love the playful nature of the Absolu Rouge Sheer lipstick. When it comes to eye make-up, there's no need to go overboard. Long, expertly defined lashes and a subtle sweep of neutral-colored shimmery eyeshadow are enough to make your eyes pop. The Définicils mascara and Sensational Effects Eye Shadow Smooth Hold in Filigree are the perfect combination.
