What is a Night Cream?
A night cream is a specifically-formulated moisturiser that repairs and regenerates the skin overnight. Like your daily moisturiser, a night cream is used to hydrate the skin, but packed with ingredients that help make the most of the skin’s ‘night rhythm’.
Why Use A Night Cream?
Because night creams usually have a thicker formula, they hydrate more intensely. During the day, this level of moisture might feel like too much, especially under makeup, as the thick cream isn’t absorbed as quickly as a day cream. However, at night, your skin absorbs around 15% more of what you put on it compared to during the day. Lancôme night creams are formulated with active ingredients that work with the overnight process your skin goes through, and repair the damage from your daytime life.
While your daily moisturiser should contain ingredients like SPF and other protectants to prevent sun damage, wrinkles and fine lines, a night cream should ideally include active ingredients designed to enrich your skin as they sink in overnight. Choose night creams with ingredients like ceramides, such as Rénergie Nuit Multi-Glow Night Cream, that increase collagen production and help to enhance the skin's natural strength and function overnight. Night creams often also contain antioxidants like Vitamin C, E and A, which deliver anti-aging benefits.
Night Cream for Dry and Sensitive Skin
Night cream can be particularly beneficial for dry and sensitive skin, as the thicker formulas can help deliver more hydration that sinks into the skin overnight. A night cream like Genifique Repair Night Cream will leave skin intensely moisturised, smooth, and more radiant.
If you suffer from dry, flaky skin, a night cream with AHAs or BHAs like Glycolic Acid can also be beneficial as these ingredients chemically exfoliate the skin overnight.
Night Cream for Oily Skin
A common myth is that oily skin should stay away from thicker formula creams. However, oily skin needs moisture too. After cleansing away excess oil, use a night cream like Hydra Zen Anti-Stress Night Cream to recharge and refresh your skin, without clogging pores.
Night Cream for Aging Skin
An anti-aging night cream is an essential step in any anti-aging skincare routine. Lancôme Rénergie Multi-Lift Night Cream is designed to tighten the look of your skin while it is most receptive, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and replenishing your skin with moisture as you sleep.
How to Apply Night Cream
A night cream should be the final step in your nighttime skincare routine. After cleansing, toning and applying your serums, apply the night cream in circular motions, working outwards from the center of the face.
